The “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” Closed Joint-Stock Company was established by merging the country’s two largest fleets – the Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company and the Caspian Sea ​​Oil Fleet of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic. The merger took place in accordance with Decree No.6 of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic, dated October 22, 2013, on establishing of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” Closed Joint-Stock Company and Decree No.213, dated January 10, 2014, on organizing of the work of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” Closed Joint-Stock Company. Two companies were merged in order to increase domestic and international transportation in the maritime industry, enhance the competitiveness and transit potential of Azerbaijan and get synergies from centralized management of the state-owned shipping companies.

The “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC is comprised of offshore support and merchant fleets and two shipyards.

The merchant fleet consists of 56 vessels: 23 tankers, 13 ferries, 16 dry cargo, 2 Ro-Ro ships, and 2 Ro-Pax ships.

The specialized fleet consists of 200 vessels, including 21 crane vessels, 8 tankers, 3 supply vessels, 3 tugboats, 21 tugboat-supply vessels, 6 port tugs, 23 passenger tugs, 2 pipe-laying tugs, 5 fire-fighting vessels, 5 engineering-geological vessels, 5 barges, 10 diving vessels, 5 dredging vessels and 83 service and auxiliary vessels.

Azerbaijan’s strategic geographical position between Europe and Asia, together with the international cargo transportation routes traversing the Caspian Sea, renders the transport fleet of the Caspian Shipping Company of exceptional importance for the facilitation of transit cargo operations. Moreover, the Company’s extensive, highly specialized offshore fleet constitutes a critical asset in the successful execution of large-scale oil and gas projects in the Caspian Sea.
